OTHER COMMENTS: This was a very interesting collaboration between the toy store Kid Robot and the high fashion department store Barney's New York. It was released during Fashion Week (Feb 2005). This special edition features a little Kid Robot keychain and custom designed footbeds. There are 4 designs by different illustrators (mine is Gary Baseman). Each comes sealed in a silver sleeve which is what vinyl figures are commonly packaged in. The shoes came in 2 colors: Black and Pink. The Black version was released exclusively at Barney's New York (uptown location). I believe about 300 were made. The Pink versions were not for sale. They were distributed thru promotion directly thru Nike. I believe 50 were made in the Pink. The back of the shoes feature a Kid Robot logo where you would usually find a Nike logo. This is rarely done on a Nike so it's interesting to see.
Little known fact: The box and packaging for this was created by yours truly, Staple Design. We oversaw the manufacturing and delivery as well. Want proof? Check out the tiny copy embedded within the barcode. It reads "4STPL-1905". "1905" is the Pantone Color Code of our favorite shade of Pink. Also, these were so limited and done so quickly they didn't even issue a Style #. We were instructed to just put "XXXXXX" on the outer sticker. In fact, the inside label which usually has the barcode, size and date of manufacture simply says: "PROMO SAMPLE SIZE 10". Holla!

Jeff I want to work for you! All i get is a pair of Zoom Lebron III. Yay!
erm, is this where i post about me being interested in this pair..?
anyways, couldnt find an email adress, so im having a go..
$100 ?
(dont even know what it would cost to get em over here (Belgium) but hey, worth a try..)
nike + pink = hot.
No, but thanks for the offer.
Jeff-
I remember the first time I saw these...I remember reading they were inspired by KidRobot's Maserati, and instantly wanted a pair. Sadly, I had moved from the East to Texas a month prior, and couldn't convince any NYC friends to brave the Barney's lines.
Seeing them now brings all that back, and conjures just why we're in this game in the first place. Top rate, I'd throw down a grip if my accountant would let me. (Though I'll up the current top offer to $150 and a free tee design from YT)
All the best-
Ryan

Actually, I'll one-up myself: I'd be willing to trade just about any pair from my own collection:

it must nice to be you. i'm jealous.
i live these kicks, but i don't really have anything worthy to offer. i could however, promise that the kicks would have a nice home in a well designed atmosphere, a post on my blog, and plenty of "don't you wish you were me" 's to all of my friends and co-workers. ha.
nice blog. looking forward to more.

When these hit stores (store?) it was one of the crueler reminders that nothing ever comes to Prague. Well, that's not entirely true - but when it comes to shoes it is entirely true. I'd check these out on ebay and watch the prices go from somewhat reasonable to somewhat unreasonable to totally unreasonable. While the pattern was highly predictable and consistent, I'd keep searching it up not to buy the shoes but to look at them.
Living in Prague gives you a little different perspective on things like shoes as no one really cares about them, at least no one I've met in the last few years. That means a couple things: first, as noted above, there's not much of a market for things like some of the more limited and creative shoes out there (every once in a while some shop pops up but seems to go out of business in less than a season) and second, anyone who does bother to hunt something out and who does give a shit generally isn't part of a scene or looking to impress. The simple fact is - you've got no one to impress.
My girlfriend still laughs at me / rolls her eyes when I come home with a new pair of shoes but has come to realize that it's about more than a pair of shoes. While she might not get it emotionally by now she gets it intellectually. It's not about a pair of shoes; rather, it's about design - the ability to do something so different and creative in that tiny space. To take something common to every single person you walk by in a day and somehow make it special.
Which brings us back to this shoe. I don't believe that I'll be writing in for other shoes you put up - I really can't think of another that I've liked in the same way over the last few years - but this one seems like I could bring it home and make my point. "See? It's not about just a shoe." Then I guess I'd hang it on the wall. Maybe it's the 1905, who knows? Maybe I only need you to send me one of them?
So, here's my offer - I'm a little concerned that the above text is going to give you the wrong idea about Prague. Outside of the previously noted downside, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world and has a pretty solid design history. I've yet to encounter anyone that looks across the Vlatava at the castle or drinks a real tap Pilsner and doesn't get it. But shipping the castle will prove prohibitive and bottled beer just won't do (I know how pretentious it sounds, you'll need to trust.) I can hook you up with the next best thing - Becharovka (a local liquor that a friend called chicken liquor as it supposedly has something like 11 herbs and spices,) a nice design retrospective about the top 100 czech designs in the last 100 years (no shoes) and a little DIY homemade goodness from Praha. Holla, indeed.
Sneakers. To most people it's just a word for what you wear on your feet for protection from the elements. Something that walks well, fits good and just takes care of general business.
For me, it started with design.
Nike has always been the tastemakers for the visual communication of an era of footwear. I first was caught up with the early Jordan 3's. That cement/white colorway served as a foundation for the stylistic aesthetic of my youth. Being inspired by colorways, textures, patterns and the fluid gestalt that paved the way for industrial design, urban arts, and the fashion of generations to come. I have always been a fan of Nike for this reason, inspiring me to work harder and think in a different light regarding design. That early love of footwear birthed my design education, and after school and taking business into my own hands and starting my own boutique firm and screeprinting shop, I was finally able to get there.
The three shoes that inspired and served as foundation styles: The Jordan 3's, initial AM1's and the AM90's. When I found this page I was overwhelmed, is this real? Wow... ...so here comes the offer, after finding a pair of the most flamboyantly sick kicks whose original form inspired me, I have to bid. Even though you've shaped Staple into a vessel of artistic exploration, including a design firm, retail space and apparel line I can offer these two things to you: $200 and the printing cost for any run of apparel you'd like. I run a integrated refined and high quality print shop, utilizing materials of the highest quality with the hand printed assurance that each piece is dynamically perfect when compared to the previous. You decide the quantity and teh image style, whether it's for your business or your friends, it's on me.
Thank you for being an individual that followed their dream, it is definitely an inspiration for those of us that wish to do the same...
The staple of this here is the hunt. By, this here, I refer to the love you have of what you see, then want, eventually need, and more often than not, get. I'm sure that was a run-on, and horribly written sentence, but i'm not here to be perfect. No one is. I actually just wanted to give respect due to someone who still does it the right way. No hypebeasts, re-sellers, or any pussyfootin'. Straight raw. Much respect, and I hope I can catch you near the shop sometime. I need you to rate my iD's. As far as bidding, that would be useless, being that i'm a size 13. But again, if I stop by and see you, remember the moniker 'frenzee'. Need some input on the flava I brought to these 1 mid's, 180's, dunks, and tennis classic's. One.
hands down,I will work 52 saturdays and sundays at the reed space for these ! and these arent even my size, and this is for real !!

Jeff,
I live in a country where the rare sneakers never, never appear. So I have to work it the hard way. And I have managed to get myself a pair of the Black Kid Robots. And these Pink ones would complement them just perfectly. And I am the same shoe size as you...and the same astrological sign...so it's all falling into place nicely. Would $350 swing it ? Please please let me know.
Cheers.
